A Bespoke Table for a Yorkshire Kitchen
Not so long ago, a client asked us to make a table for her North Yorkshire kitchen. The brief was to craft a similar oak dining table to one she had seen on Pinterest. It was a little tricky to see the features among the sea of chair legs that surrounded it in the picture. But closer inspection revealed a very solid, modern rustic dining room table. We were, of course, delighted to take on the commission.
Pillar Legs and Scrolled Feet
The specifications for this oak dining table included a generous wide pillar column on each leg with chamfered corners. The feet would be only slightly wider with a voluptuous curve gently rolling down to a scroll on each toe. This detail would show off the figuration in the French oak we use to it’s best.
Raw Wood Finish
Our client loved the look of unfinished oak. “My preference is the most natural and organic colour possible – more so on the ash grey side of colour rather than a medium oak”. So with this in mind, we knew that a matt lacquer or a Danish oil finish would not be the right option for her. Both these finishes tend to enhance and deepen the colour of the timber slightly. Therefore, the obvious alternative was to opt for an Osmo polyx oil Raw instead. This finish would give her kitchen table the paler, natural untreated look she really wanted.
Dining Table Size
Our client opted for a generous size for her 8 seat table. At 250 cm long and 100 cm wide, the chairs would be very comfortably spaced around it. There would even be room left over to squeeze in an extra guest or two on occasion if need be. Our Yorkshire client was delighted with her table and we now offer the design as part of our table collection.
We now make this design in a standard sizes to seat 6, 8 or 10 people. And of course, we can always able to adapt any of our table sizes to suit your own bespoke dimensions. We currently have a customer requesting a whopping 16 to 20 seat version!
