A Bespoke Table for a Provence Kitchen
The making of this Provence kitchen table was over a year in the planning. We were initially contacted by an interior designer based in the South of France who was looking for some table inspiration for an forthcoming kitchen renovation. Her client in the beautiful village of Goult had very specific tastes. We were sent some inspiring mood boards and a few ideas for dining tables.

Table Design
We discussed a few ideas over the course of a couple of months. But as is often the case, the space available in the kitchen was the final deciding factor for the design. The space was square and required a table with the same proportions. The client decided on a pedestal style base with diagonal cross braces. The table would measure 2 metres square. We then produced some scale drawings for approval.
Typical of any renovation, work was delayed and we were unable to start the making of the table until whole 12 months later. During this time a couple of dining benches were also added to the order. The design of the benches was based on an antique French bench that had been spotted at a local brocante. We were able to reproduce the design but to a size specifically to match the dining table.
Table & Bench Making in the Workshop
Several weeks of making in the workshop, the table and benches were finally ready to apply the finish. Our client wanted an ‘unfinished’ look or as near to as possible, so we chose to apply a non-yellowing matt lacquer. This finish would offer full protection from stains and spills whilst keeping the oak looking as natural as possible.
Large Table Delivery to Provence
We had already contacted a courier to make this delivery quite early on in the commissioning process. With such a large table, there was a lot to think through. We needed to engage someone who would be able to put the table together in the clients home. Our tables are always delivered with the top and base unattached and then attached once in situ.
This table was slightly different however, because the top was made in two halves (you would never know!). So some additional care was needed, not to mention muscle. Patrick Law of Patrick Transports Bretagne did an amazing job for us as he has many times before.
If you’re looking to have a beautiful new table made for you then why not get in touch to discuss your very own commission today. Call +33 (0)2 43 09 63 70 or send us an email or use our contact form. We will be delighted to hear from you. Quotations are free and without obligation!
