Makers Bespoke Furniture : Spring Diary
With so much ‘life’ happening around work, we are amazed that we have found time to make any furniture at all this Spring. So many things happened to conspire against us at the beginning of this year. We honestly question how the heck those of you with ‘normal’ jobs do it?!!
Who are we ?
For those of you who don’t know us, and contrary to how it may seem, we are a tiny team of two. One full time furniture maker, one part time maker / PA / creative content maker / client contact person and everything admin. Check out our About Us page for a little more background.
The Downsides to a Makers’ life…
Sometimes, it is all too easy for us to see the downsides of working from home. Never quite able to truly relax and switch off. Clients have access to you at any time of day/evening/weekend by phone or email. When a problem arises, the buck stops with you, no one will stride in and save our day. When you also care deeply about the satisfaction of each client, sometimes the responsibility feels beyond enormous. We have deliberately kept our business small, so that the stresses can’t get too huge. Imposter Syndrome, however, is never quite able to leave us.
The Positives…
Sometimes though, we really do feel the need to pinch ourselves! We are reminded of how extraordinarily lucky we are. Yes, we sometimes have to take a hit because a family emergency with elderly relatives means I spend weeks away from the office, unable to concentrate on anything else. Yes, ferrying the kids to and from this or that means that hyper-focus is dim and distant memory. But not having a daily commute does mean that we can take time off when we need to. We can choose to finish early for the day or work all weekend, or take weeks off – whatever is required. We have chosen to live our lives this way, so that we do have a choice.
